Title: Windows Vista Post by: keeba on February 07, 2007, 10:25:26 AM Each new version of Windows gets more intrusive and controlling. Here's an article that delves into the fine print of the Vista EULA. It ain't pretty.
http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/175801 What they have in store for the future is even scarier: http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/79728/index.html This makes me think of an old MST3K bit, "Johnny Long-Torso", an action figure that only came with a head and torso and you had to buy each limb separately. :P I guess my next laptop will be a Linux box. Title: Re: Windows Vista Post by: Mags on February 07, 2007, 08:27:13 PM I'm not bothering to upgrade. My computer (Windows XP) is less than a year old, but I don't think it has enough memory (and I'm darned if I want to slow it down if it does).
My brother the geek has offered to install Ubuntu Linux in a dual-boot configuration. Really the only reason I need Windows is for dialing into the work VPN--we're a Windows shop, unfortunately. (Even the SERVERS! Eeeek! No wonder we get bitched out for using Gmail.) I even have to use IE to use the VPN client. :-X I think I can sync my Treo with Linux. Not sure. But there are rumors that Palm is doing something in the line of a Linux tablet device, so I would imagine there will be a way in future if there isn't now. ;D Title: Re: Windows Vista Post by: Cyberlibrarian on February 07, 2007, 08:39:43 PM I bought a new computer in November, and was told that it is Vista compatible and that I could upgrade for free. I talked with the tech guy from work and he said he's not installing it for any of his corporate customers and that he didn't think I needed to do it either.
I'd love a Mac, but I can't afford it so, in the meantime, XP is fine with me. Title: Re: Windows Vista Post by: Mary on February 09, 2007, 07:37:34 AM My friend just got a new Dell with Vista on it. She's spent the last 3 nights on the phone with tech support trying to sort out compatibility issues.
My computer is only a year old, too. I'm not bothering with it either.
