I have a book report coming up and I was wondering if any of you guys (or gals) could give me any insight into the "alphabet letters game" that Emma and Frank were playing with Jane. I gather that is an actual game, and if anybody could give me any insight on it (what the actual game is called, how its played...anything would be helpful), it would be greatly appreciated and helpful.

It was a sort of 'word puzzle'.
Different alphabets forming a word would be selected and placed in a jumble.
One had to sort these alphabets out, to form the word.
Some of the words played out were - Blunder, Dixon, and the last one which Jane Fairfax shoves aside was supposed to be 'pardon'. This last word is left as a mystery in the book, but JA told her family that the word was 'pardon'. Frank Churchill wanted to apologise to Jane Fairfax for the blunder , and perhaps his teasing with the word 'Dixon'.

The Alphabets were written by Emma herself - for her nephews to play with when they visited.
What a lovely aunt!!!

I think the name could have been 'word puzzle'. In the book they just talk about puzzling each other.
So, just 'puzzle' could also be possible.

The way it was/is played - if you want the word 'blunder', you pick up the alphabets in this word and place them in a jumble for instance;
LRUBNED, and the person would have to straighten that out and find the right word.
