I didn't even know this gem was hidden somewhere there till amazon.uk recommended it to me.
 Having enjoyed Cranford so much I didn't hesitate to order it.
The theme is not the same, and yet it is!!
Another heart warming period drama set in the late 18th century.
Lark Rise, a small hamlet, and it's neighbour Candleford, a developing market town (representing change)
Beautiful, honey coloured, Oxfordshire  buildings.
I had to watch the "making of..." because I was curious to know which Cotswold village they filmed in, and was surprised that they were not real, and were especially erected for the sets. A job well done.
Made me tear up at times with emotion.

Nearly 10 hours (or 582 mints) of pure pleasure - well I'm sure it must be, because i have just finished watching the first of four discs.
The first episode deals with the post office and its distance from Lark Rise.
Gosh!! To think what the  the importance of  post office was then as compared to today.
Made me think of the lines in Emma;

Quote
...a post-office, I think, must always have power to draw me out

Once again familiar faces - Fanny Dashwood and Mrs Jennings from the recent S&S, Julia Swahala, Mrs Forester from P&P95, a lady from Cranford, and even a Prince William looking gamekeeper. (sorry i can't remember the actors' names)

For the next several weeks I can be assured of something to curl up on the sofa and watch during my free time  Grin

Forgot to mention that it's a BBC drama.

ooops!! Not late 18th century, but late 19th century.
