I caught last night's premiere of Eli Stone and definitely think it has potential.  I thought the storyline of this episode was very basic and simple (you could easily figure out how it would end) but the character introductions were nicely done.  And I like how they've set up Eli's visions-as-prophesies to drive the stories in each episode.  So theres a lot to build upon there.

Johnny Lee Miller played the character well.  It's always nice to see actors who don't take themselves so seriously they can't handle embarrassing stunts.  He may have come across as a little too sympathetic in the beginning but I don't totally fault him there.  I like the idea of his ambitious side conflicting with his newly discovered do-gooder side.  But he made the transition too quickly, IMO.  We'll see how they manage that in future episodes.

I LOVE Loretta Divine as his assistant.  More of here please!  Especially with how openly she dislikes Eli's fianc.  Speaking of which, not sure about Natasha Henstridge as his fianc.  They didn't really do a lot with her.  I can't tell if we're supposed to like her or not.  She freaked out when Eli found out about the brain aneurysm and almost left him.  And that's about all the character development we got for her.  The only person I can't stand in the cast is Victor Garber.  Maybe it's the fact that he always seems to play the same uncaring character over and over again, but he just irritates me.  Hopefully we won't have to deal with him too much.

All-in-all, I liked it and will be tuning in next week.  It definitely had some good humor and I enjoyed the visions along with Eli's trip to India.  Of course, now I can't get George Michael's "Faith" out of my head!

Did anyone else tune in?  What did you think?

Have watched the first two episodes, and it's fun, but to be honest I don't know if I would turn it on if I wasn't already watching Lost. Smiley

Kelley, are you feeling better about his transition? It's really not that fast. I think he does still have some residual ambition. Had to laugh at Victor Garber's musical number. Maybe the concerns from the first episode will all be dispelled by later episodes.

Loretta Divine is awesome! "No hugs. It's not Christmas."

Loretta Devine is the best thing on the show.  I'm finding it a little precious, a charge that was made against PUSHING DAISIES but I think is a lot more deserved here.  I'm not sure if I'll stick with it or not.  I actually think it was bold of them to make the girlfriend so flawed but keep her in the picture.  I thought they were going to write her off in the first episode, but they didn't.  By the way, didn't his doctor brother violate doctor/patient confidentiality by telling their mother about his condition?

Actually, I was surprised to see him jump back to ambitious lawyer so quickly only to come to the conclusion that he can't be that lawyer anymore by the end of the episode.  So yeah, I still think it was a pretty quick transition.  Of course, that may be a good thing...not sure how dragging that piece out would help the show any.

I was looking forward to the second episode to see if they could draw me in a little more.  I liked the pilot but wasn't "wowed" by it and wanted to see if the series had room to grow.  Once again, I was left a little wanting.  But it comes on after "Lost" and since there's nothing else on Thursdays I'll probably stick with it a little while longer.  It will be interesting to see how many viewers came back for a second helping.

I really like the visions.  They're probably the best part of the whole thing.  And Loretta Devine breathed life into the second episode so thank goodness for her.  I'm not quite a fan of the eager young associate who wanted to team up with Eli.  She's a little too sweet and bubbly and I'm wondering how on earth she was hired by that firm.  But the fianc is growing on me.  I'm looking forward to seeing more interactions between her and Eli next week...just to give her a little more depth.
