Each new version of Windows gets more intrusive and controlling.  Here's an article that delves into the fine print of the Vista EULA. It ain't pretty.

What they have in store for the future is even scarier:

This makes me think of an old MST3K bit, "Johnny Long-Torso", an action figure that only came with a head and torso and you had to buy each limb separately.

I guess my next laptop will be a Linux box.

I'm not bothering to upgrade. My computer (Windows XP) is less than a year old, but I don't think it has enough memory (and I'm darned if I want to slow it down if it does).

My brother the geek has offered to install Ubuntu Linux in a dual-boot configuration. Really the only reason I need Windows is for dialing into the work VPN--we're a Windows shop, unfortunately. (Even the SERVERS! Eeeek! No wonder we get bitched out for using Gmail.) I even have to use IE to use the VPN client. Lips sealed

I think I can sync my Treo with Linux. Not sure. But there are rumors that Palm is doing something in the line of a Linux tablet device, so I would imagine there will be a way in future if there isn't now. Grin

I bought a new computer in November, and was told that it is Vista compatible and that I could upgrade for free.  I talked with the tech guy from work and he said he's not installing it for any of his corporate customers and that he didn't think I needed to do it either.

I'd love a Mac, but I can't afford it so, in the meantime, XP is fine with me.

My friend just got a new Dell with Vista on it.  She's spent the last 3 nights on the phone with tech support trying to sort out compatibility issues.

My computer is only a year old, too.  I'm not bothering with it either.
